Description: Shumard should be grown in full sun on well-drained soil, acid, sandy or loam (not clay). Deciduous, green leaves turn copper in fall. The dark brown to black bark is ridged and furrowed and resembles Cherry bark, to some extent, and the half-inch acorns are popular with wildlife.
